January 2018 – March 2019 Interim Library Director
Cushwa-Leighton Library, Saint Mary’s College, Notre Dame, IN
  • Responsible for all duties of the library director, including supervising 9 librarians and staff, overseeing the library’s operating and restricted budgets, and representing the library to the college administration.
  • Major initiatives that the librarians and staff completed during the 15-month period included:
    • Withdrew from our existing local library consortium with the University of Notre Dame and joined the Private Academic Library Network of Indiana (PALNI).
    • Migrated our ILS from Ex Libris’ Aleph to OCLC’s WorldShare Management System (WMS).
    • Merged the Cushwa-Leighton Library with the college’s Information Technology department, in coordination with the Chief Information Officer and a steering committee of library staff, IT staff, other campus staff, and faculty.
    • In collaboration with Information Technology, brought a capital funding proposal to move the bound periodical collection to compact shelving, recapturing 50% of the floor space in the library’s lower level, and to install new, tech-enhanced study furniture and spaces into the recaptured space.
    • Launched the first wholesale redesign of the library’s web presence in a decade.
    • Launched a search for a college archivist, a position that had been vacant for two years.
2008-present Reference Librarian / Instruction Coordinator

  • Coordinate and provide leadership for information literacy activities of the library, including:
    • Provide information literacy instruction to courses in the curriculum.
    • Do outreach to new and continuing faculty to encourage them to collaborate with liaison librarians on research assignments.
    • Advocate for information literacy throughout the college curriculum.

Center for Women’s Intercultural Leadership (CWIL)

  • Coordinated and completed a one-year project to build the library’s collections in support of the mission of the Center, including:
    • Consulted with faculty in Women’s Studies, Intercultural Studies, and related departments to identify subject areas relevant to the project.
    • In consultation with faculty, prioritized purchase lists.
    • Prepared documentation, including annotated bibliographies, to publicize and increase usage of the new materials.
  • Results: After ten years, 77% of the books acquired as part of the project had circulated at least once, and 52% had circulated at least twice. For randomly-selected books acquired in the same year that were not part of the project, 60% had circulated at least once and 38% had circulated at least twice.

Reference, Acquisitions, and Development Departments
D. H. Hill Library, North Carolina State University
  • Reference: Assisted Librarian for Instruction and Undergraduate Research in providing library instruction and supporting the department’s instruction program.
  • Acquisitions: Designed and implemented a project to project 3-, 5-, and 10-year scenarios for bundled serial package pricing, given historical inflation rates.
  • Library Development: Collaborated with the Development staff to launch and sustain the Libraries’ capital campaign, including building a website for the Development Office, and writing a set of human-interest pieces on specific donors.

  • Managed a collection of over 200 active serial subscriptions.
  • Cataloged music scores from copy on OCLC.
  • Trained and supervised student assistants in retrospective tattle-taping project.
  • Assisted in moving the entire library collection into newly renovated space in summer 2003.
