Regarding the “since 1996” claim in the header: I put my first web page up sometime in 1995, 1996, or 1997, on the biomed web server at Yale University. It was certainly up by the spring of 1997, because it was entered into evidence in a court of law at that time.* I probably wrote it sometime in the 1995-96 academic year, because in it, I claim that Michael Tenzer is my dissertation adviser, and I’m pretty sure that ’95-’96 was the last year that was true. I’m certain that by ’96-’97 I had switched and was working with Ramon Satyendra. So 1996 seems like a reasonable compromise.
I’ve tried to find it using the Wayback Machine, but to no avail, since I don’t remember its (obnoxious, cumbersome) URL. It’s probably just as well. I’ve still got it stored locally, preserved through three generations of personal computers, but I think it’s probably best left unpublished. You’ll just have to take my word on it.
*Well, a printout of the home page of the site was entered into evidence. I had some difficulty explaining to the cross-examining attorney that what he was holding in his hand wasn’t a completely accurate representation of the web page. The case in question was Yale University, 330 N.L.R.B. at 246 (PDF).
